We will explore how trauma and related emotions manifest during the medical interpreting process, affecting not only the clinical encounter, but also the medical interpreter. We will also discuss the interrelatedness of Major Depression and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, presenting the symptoms characteristic of each disorder, their diagnostic definition and their connection to interpersonal trauma. The centrality of acculturation and its implications for assessment and treatment will be emphasized.
