Allison Entrekin, who translated the Brazilian book City of God from Portuguese to English, once said at the International Literary Festival in Paraty: "Sometimes, the translator has to choose something when it is simply impossible to find an equivalent word." Throughout this workshop, we will delve into the often "simply impossible" task of translating colloquialisms, regionalisms and slang from Romance languages to English.
